Earth & Wire is the retail gateway to EnergyFields, supplying clean electricity to South African commercial and industrial users and the contracted route to market for merchant volume from the cluster. It currently facilitates peer-to-peer bilateral energy trades between organisations in its network.
It is positioned to become South Africa's leading customer-centric private electricity provider, managing power purchase agreements from Dim Sum Energy's projects through to traders, industrial and commercial energy consumers, and municipal offtakers.
Customers take flexible wheeled renewable power over their existing grid connections. There is no new infrastructure to build on the customer side, and no requirement to commit to the rigid long-term contract structures that have kept most businesses out of the private market.
What it does
Smart virtual utility
Sells flexible wheeled renewable power to commercial and industrial users over their existing grid connections. Rolling, short-form procurement instead of rigid long-term PPAs, with shaped supply from wind, solar and battery storage.
Generator to load matching
Pairs generators with consumers on one-to-one wheeling agreements, and runs registration, allocation, metering, billing and settlement through its metering and platform partnerships. Environmental attributes pass to the buyer.
Bilateral supply, live today
Earth & Wire facilitates peer-to-peer bilateral energy trades between organisations in its network, structuring and administering the agreements that move power from one party to another. A NERSA licence would extend this to aggregation and portfolio balancing in Earth & Wire's own name, and remains a condition precedent in the EnergyFields agreement.
Route to market for EnergyFields
Exclusive merchant right over EnergyFields output not sold under the anchor power purchase agreement, turning uncontracted merchant volume into contracted retail revenue.
